I’m pleased I bought this viewer. Prior to buying I was comfortable with the Sytong brand having used a couple of their night vision scopes and having recently purchased a Sytong thermal sight. I have the thermal sight mounted on a .223, but I often hunt with quieter rifles using subsonic cartridges and ordinary optical sights. I can mostly just aim and shoot with my Sytong/.223 rig because my hunting range is generally under 150 metres. I can aim directly at a hare out to about 130 metres and be fairly sure of hitting it with standard ammunition. Things are different with my subsonic ammo which drops dramatically beyond about 60 metres. I find it hard to estimate range at night, especially in unfamiliar territory, and I need to be sure of my range so that I can either pass up on the shot…. or know how much hold-over I should use. The rangefinder on this viewer is easy to use, and clear to read in the dark.

The unit is compact. I have a cord tied to it so I can hang it around my neck, and I was pleased to discover that it would fit in the breast pocket of my hunting jacket. I like that it uses a removable 18650 battery… not only because I can carry spares (not that I am ever likely to drain a battery during an evening hunt) but because I will never have to send the unit away to have an internal battery replaced… plus I have the option of not wearing out the charging port by constantly plugging into it.

When I was ordering this viewer, I was concerned that its relatively small lens might limit my field of view. But I bought it anyway because I needed a range-finder, and when I took it out hunting I found that the field of view was fine – much the same as the thermal viewer I’d been using up until the Sytong arrived. The unit was competitively priced and I think it will serve me well.
